Pursuing Communication or Journalism at Ohio State

Students are required to apply for admission to the four majors in the School of Communication at The Ohio State University after completion of the pre-major requirements. Upon admission to the university, most students begin as pre-communication or pre-journalism students and complete pre-major coursework during their first year at OSU. The primary criteria for admission to Ohio State is completion of the applicant's high school college preparatory program, performance in that program as indicated by class rank and/or grade point average, and performance on either the ACT or SAT. In general, the online application is available beginning the 10th week of the preceding term and will close the Wednesday after grades are posted for the preceding term. This means that students will be able to receive their admissions decision before the term for which they have applied actually starts. For instance, the spring application will be due by the Wednesday after grades are posted for autumn term.
