Scholarships and Awards
Scholarship application for the School of Communication is available starting Friday, January 15, 2010. The application is only available on-line at https://www.comm.ohio-state.edu/AppLogin.aspx . The deadline to submit the application will be Monday, February 15, 2010. Students will be notified if they earned a Scholarship or Award via a letter during the second week of April, 2010. The scholarship and award ceremony will be held on Friday,TBA. (Faculty Club)
Walter K. Bunge Minority Scholarship
Award to support and encourage a minority journalism student.
Michael V. DiSalle Scholarship
Awards open to students in the news-editorial sequence.
William Drenten Scholarship
Awards open to students in the broadcast sequence.
Charles W. Durfey Memorial Scholarship Fund in Journalism
Student(s) majoring in journalism who show promise in reporting; amount varies.
James W. Faulkner Scholarship(s)
Advanced students; on the basis of scholastic achievements, professional promise, and need; number and amount vary.
John B. Fullen Scholarships
Outstanding students; number and amount vary.
Lester C. Getzloe Scholarship
Any student on the basis of high scholarship and financial need; one.
Hameroff/Milenthal/Spence Award
Awarded to a student entering the senior year in journalism; includes fully paid summer internship.
William Randolph Hearst Scholarship
Awarded annually to sophomore and junior students who have performed well in their journalism studies.
Kappa Tau Alpha Scholarship
Awarded annually to a member of this honorary society for outstanding academic achievement; one.
George J. Kienzle Memorial Scholarship
Meritorious students; number and amount varies.
Judy Stewart Mesenburg Scholarship
Excellent performance and potential in public relations.
Joseph S. Myers Scholarship
Any student, on the basis of distinguished achievement and scholastic accomplishment; one.
William H. Newton Award
The student selected as having done the most outstanding reporting job for the Lantern during the school year; one.
Ohio Newspaper Fund Award
Awarded on the basis of high scholarship and financial need; number and amount vary.
Richard Piergallini Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to an Ohio State Journalism student who displays characteristics of good reporting, good editing, and good nature.
James E. Pollard Memorial Scholarship
Students enrolled in the School of Journalism on the basis of above average academic achievement.
Public Relations Student Society of America Awards
Presented to students active in the Ohio State Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter.
Robert K. Richards Scholarship
Any student; one.
Robert E. Schaefer Scholarship
Awarded to candidates of above average academic achievement who have indicated a preference for print media. If all other qualifications for the candidates are similar, applicants from Ross County, Ohio, should be given preference.
Scripps Howard Scholarship
Awarded annually by the Scripps Howard Foundation and the School of Journalism to a senior in the Cincinnati High School of Communication Professions who will attend Ohio State.
Walter W. Seifert Award
Awarded annually to two outstanding members of the Ohio State Chapter of the PRSSA.
Smith-Lantern Award
An outstanding senior in the news-editorial sequence; one.
Frank J. Tate Scholarship in Journalism
Juniors or seniors who are specializing in magazine management or news magazine reporting.
Paul N. Williams Scholarship
A student who has done exceptional in-depth or investigative reporting.
Wolfe Journalism Honor Medal
Senior with high scholarship and professional promise.
