Profile
My primary research focus is on the ways in which culture and identity influence communication about health. I am especially interested in the effectiveness of metaphor as a health communication tool. My passion is helping the scientific community connect with medically underserved and under-researched populations including adolescents, older adults, and people living in rural areas. I am currently working on grant-funded projects to improve clinical communication about cancer clinical trials and to develop culturally appropriate substance use prevention messages for rural adolescents.
